Al Dente Gluten Free Pasta

I love learning about new gluten free foods, and even more so when they are made right here in the state of Michigan. Add in that it's made in a dedicated gluten free facility AND it's certified gluten free by the GFCO, and I'm beyond excited.

Al Dente's new gluten free pasta is worth knowing about. This gluten free pasta is made from beans, but has been specially treated to remove any bean after taste. Because it is made from beans, each two ounce serving has 6 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein, plus it only has 65 mg of sodium. The benefits don't stop there though- it is also soy free, egg free and dairy free, as well as containing no genetically modified ingredient and it's kosher.

Al Dente pasta was generous enough to send me a package containing one of each of the new gluten free pastas. Their spiral pastas come in three flavors- Pure & Simple, Spinach, and Garlic Parsley. As healthy as it appears, I was so eager to see how it tasted.

As I was considering how I wanted to prepare the Pure & Simple the other night, I noticed that there was a recipe on the back of the bag. As it was similar to what I had in mind, I chose to go with their recipe for Pasta with Sausage and Broccoli.

Do you notice the number 3 on the bottom right hand corner of the bag of pasta? That's because this pasta cooks in only 3 MINUTES! And that was a big help the night that I made this, after spending all day helping my husband pack up his classroom for the end of the year.

Although Al Dente calls their pasta "spirals," I felt that they were closer to egg noodle pasta. Which is AWESOME because I can never find gluten free egg noodle pasta! This pasta cooks up nice and tender, and benefits from a little simmer in the sauce that you're making, just to marry the flavors. Not long, just enough for them to get acquainted. :)
